The AIM President’s Cup once again brought together a veritable who’s who of Philippine business and society, including top corporate executives, entrepreneurs, and development leaders.
Since its revival in 2015, the AIM President’s Cup has been growing in stature, with alumni and corporate sponsors supporting the golf tournament. This year’s edition was no different.
The day started with dark clouds and rain threatening to spoil the fun ― but golfers are a hardy bunch, who go by the saying, “It never rains on the golf course.” As the steady stream of golfers arrived at the Sta. Elena clubhouse, the dark clouds soon dispersed giving way to bright sunlight.
AIM President and Dean Jikyeong Kang made the long drive from Makati to encourage players with a tee-off message. She masterfully got everyone up to speed with all the latest developments in the Institute; from the new program offerings such as the highly-anticipated Master of Science in Data Science to the 50th anniversary celebrations in 2018. Golfers took in her every word and there was a palpable feeling of pride for the alma mater.
After the inspirational send-off, golfers raced to their assigned holes to buckle down and play tournament golf. After the last putt dropped and scorecards were turned in, Sta. Elena officials tabulated the scores to determine the winners. Over a tasty lunch of the golf club’s famed Hainanese chicken dish, the following winners were announced:
- Class C Champion - Hubert Tubio
- Class C 1st Runner Up - Maximo Reyes
- Class C 2nd Runner Up - Robbie Pablo
- Class B Champion - Willy Tee Ten
- Class B 1st Runner Up - M-Ray Morales (MBM 1988)
- Class B 2nd Runner Up - Jovy Santos (MDP 2005)
- Class A Champion - Les Reyes (ME 2004)
- Class A 1st Runner Up - Noel Felicia (MM 1998)
- Class A 2nd Runner Up - Juan Paolo Martirez (MBA 2013)
- Lowest Net Winner - Francis Gaston (MBM 1973)
- Lowest Gross Winner - Raymond Lacdao (MBM 2000)
Every golfer went home a winner. Prizes were raffled off to make sure each participant won a prize. The fortunate ones brought home flatscreens, golf clubs and bags, as well as valuable gift certificates.
The sponsors who made the 2017 AIM President’s Cup possible were Security Bank Corporation as Presenting and Eagle sponsor; Proscenium at Rockwell as Eagle sponsor; Metro Pacific Investments Corporation and Uniqlo LifeWear as Birdie sponsors; Bounty Agro Ventures – Chooks to Go and Cresina as Par sponsors; and Autohub as hole-in-one sponsor.

This early, plans are afoot to make the 2018 AIM President’s Golf Cup an even bigger affair as part of the Institute’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Congratulations to all the winners and our heartfelt thanks to the sponsors and players. See you all next year!
