Policy on Students from Special Population

The Asian Institute of Management is committed to providing an inclusive, equitable, and supportive learning environment for all students.
 
This policy ensures that students from special populations—those who may require additional support due to physical, mental, or learning conditions—are given equal access to education, resources, and opportunities through appropriate accommodations and institutional support.

  • Provide reasonable accommodations and adjustments based on individual needs

Who Are Students from Special Population?

Students from special population are individuals who may face barriers in learning due to:

  • Physical or sensory conditions (Orthopedic impairment, Hearing disorders, Deafness, Visual speech problem)
  • Chronic illness (e.g., Heart disease, Kidney disease, Cancer)
  • Neurodevelopmental Condition (e.g., Global Intellectual Delay, Language social communication, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia)
  • Psychosocial conditions (e.g.,  Schizophrenia, Delusional disorder, Bipolar, Depression, Anxiety 
  • Multiple or combined disabilities 

Inclusive Learning Framework

These stakeholders work together to support students’ intellectual, physical, emotional, and social development through an inclusive admissions and assessment process designed to ensure appropriate support and accommodations.

Students who declare a condition undergo a structured evaluation to ensure that they can meet program requirements with reasonable accommodations and the Institute can provide the necessary support.


Academic Accommodations

Support is customized through a Personal Learning Plan (PLP), which may include:

  • Adjusted learning strategies or materials
  • Alternative assessment methods (when appropriate)
  • Access to assistive tools or formats
  • Peer or academic support

Facilities and Support Services

The Institute continuously improves accessibility through:

  • Physical infrastructure (e.g., ramps, accessible spaces)
  • Learning resources in multiple formats
  • Faculty training on inclusive teaching
  • Counseling and wellness services
  • Equal Treatment and Discipline

All students are subject to the same academic and behavioral standards. However, the Institute may consider whether a condition contributed to a situation and provide appropriate support alongside disciplinary processes.

This policy aligns with Philippine laws and international standards, including:

  • Magna Carta for Disabled Persons (RA 7277)
  • Inclusive Education Act (RA 11650)
  • Mental Health Act (RA 11036)
  • Accessibility Law (BP 344)
