Fair Finance Asia welcomes Prof. Felipe O. Calderon as Advisory Committee member

Fair Finance Asia (FFA) launches its Advisory Committee and welcomes Prof. Felipe O. Calderon.

Fair Finance Asia (FFA) launches its Advisory Committee and welcomes Prof. Felipe O. Calderon, Head of AIM Washington SyCip Graduate School of Business and Executive Director of Gov. Jose B. Fernandez, Jr. Center for Sustainable Finance as one of its distinguished advisory committee members. 

FFA is a regional network of over 70 Asian civil society organizations committed to ensuring that financial institutions’ funding decisions respect the social and environmental well-being of local communities.  National coalitions are active in Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Launched in 2018, FFA is supported by the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.  

Prof. Calderon along with five other experts will share his valuable sustainable finance expertise and knowledge to FFA’s growing network to accelerate the sustainable finance agenda in Asia.


FFA ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBERS:  

Namit Agarwal is the regional Public Policy Lead at the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA), and leads WBA’s engagement with the external policy environment in Asia, focusing on issues which advocate long-term sustainable development, finance and corporate reporting. Prior to WBA, Namit worked with Oxfam India, CARE India, and Samhita Social Ventures in the areas of advocacy, campaigning, program design and communication. Namit supported the design and implementation of Oxfam India’s Responsible Business Index, led supply chain research, and convened multistakeholder dialogues for action. He has also written extensively on the intersection between business, SDGs, human rights, and finance. He is a member of the India’s National Human Rights Commission core group on Business, Environment and Human Rights. Namit brings over a decade’s experience of influencing public policy on issues of transparency, accountability, human rights, and gender.

Felipe Calderon, CPA, CMA, PhD is the Head of the Washington SyCip Graduate School of Business at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM). He is the Executive Director of AIM’s Gov. Jose B. Fernandez, Jr. Center for Sustainable Finance. Felipe has 34 years of banking experience, of which 22 years were spent at the Business Development Bank of Canada in Vancouver. He has an MSc in International Banking from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, and obtained his PhD in Management from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. Felipe has recently published two research papers in the Journal of Sustainable Finance and Investment.  

Juniati Gunawan is a lecturer and the director of Trisakti Sustainability Center (TSC), Trisakti University, Jakarta-Indonesia. She graduated with a PhD degree in accounting with specialization in corporate reporting, from Edith Cowan University (ECU), Western Australia. Juniati has published many articles in international journals and book chapters, and has received a number of accolades, and research grants such as from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). In 2013, she joined a world-mega research with The University of Toronto, Canada, supported by Enel Foundation, Italy. She is a national expert in the area of sustainability reporting and corporate accountability in Indonesia, and she is passionate about strengthening sustainable finance initiatives in the country. 

Lyn I. Javier is the Managing Director of the Policy and Specialized Supervision Sub-Sector (PSSSS) under the Financial Supervision Sector of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (Central Bank of the Philippines).  She is the designated central bank representative to the Basel Consultative Group, the Executives' Meeting of East Asia-Pacific Central Banks Working Group on Banking Supervision, and the Network for Greening the Financial System-Workstream on Scaling Up Green Finance.  Lyn recently completed the Women’s World Banking and the Alliance for Financial Inclusion 2020 Leadership and Diversity Program for Regulators at the Said Business School, University of Oxford.

Rachana Lay is the Senior Vice President at Chip Mong Bank, which is based in Cambodia. Prior to this role, Ms. Lay was the Deputy General Manager and Chief Risk Officer of the Foreign Trade Bank of Cambodia, and the Sustainable Finance Committee Chair of the Association of Banks in Cambodia. With more than two decades of experience in the banking sector in Cambodia, Rachana is an expert in strategic planning and implementation of the core strategies of financial institutions and building relevant stakeholder relationships with financial sector actors, and comes with relevant skills in the area of international banking policies and procedures.  

Shankar Venkateswaran is a part of the founding team of ECube Investment Advisors, which is setting up several initiatives in the ESG space including a climate finance fund to invest in public companies and increase value through ESG investments and providing ESG stewardship services. He advises companies and NGOs on matters relating to corporate sustainability and sustainable development. His last full-time position was as Chief, Tata Sustainability Group (TSG). Prior to this, he spent around 15 years in social development with the international NGO, ActionAid and set up the India operations of the American India Foundation, while serving as its first Executive Director in India. Shankar was a member of the two-person committee that drafted the National Guidelines on Responsible Business Conduct released in 2019 by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Govt. of India and a part of the drafting committee of the National Voluntary Guidelines for Responsible Business, 2011. He is currently the Chair of Oxfam India and CSR Trust for SDGs in India.
