Makati, Philippines – With the Philippines ranking fourth globally in cyberattacks, the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) in collaboration with the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) Student Group recently hosted a timely workshop led by two distinguished experts, who are also Master in Cybersecurity (MCS) students at AIM.
The workshop, titled “Digital Defense 101,” empowered the AIM community with essential digital security insights and practical strategies for protection as reliance on digital services continues to grow.
Jan Michael Espino, Co-Founder and CEO of Vanguard Screening Solutions and Exeleus, a prominent figure in ASEAN’s background screening, leveraged his experience and, bringing critical perspectives to the discussion including fundamental concepts distinguishing cybersecurity, information security, and data privacy.
The workshop delved deeper with the presentation of Ruben Mondejar Jr., Business Development and Consulting Services Director and Data Privacy Officer of Nexusguard, on emerging cyber threats. He highlighted the urgent need for cybersecurity awareness and expertise in a world increasingly vulnerable to digital attacks, such as recent data breaches affecting mobile wallets and digital banks. Mondejar offered significant insights into threat actor classifications and industry best practices. His extensive background, which includes teaching at Nanyang Technology University and the Philippine National Police Academy, provided participants a comprehensive understanding of current cybersecurity challenges.

The AIM Master in Cybersecurity program continues to develop security leaders primed to address these emerging threats. It offers technical training combined with strategic business insight—a crucial combination in today’s hyper-connected landscape.
