Asian Institute of Management Announces Dr. Jikyeong Kang for Third Term as President and Dean

Makati City, Philippines – The Asian Institute of Management (AIM) has announced that Dr. Jikyeong Kang has graciously accepted the AIM Board of Trustees’ offer to serve another term as President and Dean of the Institute. This will be Dr. Kang’s third term in this capacity, the Institution revealed on 30 April 2025.

Dr. Erramon I. Aboitiz, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, commented on the reappointment of Dr. Kang, stating, “We are delighted that Dr. Kang has agreed to continue her appointment at this critical juncture in AIM’s growth.  We look forward to witnessing continued successes under her leadership.”

Since 2015, Dr. Kang has spearheaded significant growth and transformation at AIM. Under her leadership, the Institute has expanded its degree programs from just three (3) offerings to fifteen (15), growing the number of annual student enrollment from less than two hundred (200) to almost one thousand three hundred (1,300).  Her commitment to excellence and innovation has been key in reestablishing AIM as a recognized leader in management education.

Dr. Kang presided over the Institute’s rebranding in 2018 to strategically position AIM for the future.  She introduced innovative and cutting-edge programs highly relevant in today’s data-driven world.  Data science, innovation, cybersecurity, financial technology, entrepreneurship, disaster risk and crisis management, and international business and law are now some of the specialized programs offered by AIM, in addition to its core business and development courses. Furthermore, a PhD in Data Science and a Doctor of Business Administration were also launched under her guidance.

In a historic milestone for the Institute, Dr. Kang opened the doors to undergraduate students for the country’s first-ever transnational double-degree program with the University of Houston (UH).  This pioneering program will allow students to graduate with a data science and business administration degree from AIM and a management information systems degree from UH.

Dr. Kang’s visionary leadership was also clearly demonstrated during the pandemic as she provided steady and compassionate guidance.  Her priority was the health and well-being of students, faculty, and staff, while ensuring students received the full academic service and support they deserved.  As a result, classes were not disrupted, the high quality of teaching and learning was maintained, and all students graduated on time.

Dr. Kang’s contribution and strategic thinking have garnered her recognition from fellow deans worldwide.  She was elected to lead and chair the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the largest international business school association, as well as the Association of Asia-Pacific Business Schools (AAPBS).  Additionally, through her board memberships in other esteemed business school alliances – including European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), UN Global Compact Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), and Global Business School Network (GBSN) – she has significantly enhanced AIM’s profile on the global stage.

She also secured the largest single cash donation in the history of Philippine higher education, an achievement underscoring her vision and the confidence of AIM’s partners and supporters. Furthermore, she has spearheaded major renovations and improvements to AIM’s facilities, ensuring that students enjoy the best possible learning environment and infrastructure.

The AIM community profoundly appreciates her dedicated service and looks forward to continuing its path of success under her ongoing leadership, all while steadfastly adhering to its mission of producing graduates who lead, inspire, and transform Asian businesses and societies.
