Professor Christian Alis, PhD Named Academic Program Director for the Master of Science in Data Science Program 

The Asian Institute of Management (AIM) has announced that Professor Christian M. Alis, PhD, will serve as the new Academic Program Director (APD) for the Master of Science in Data Science (MSDS) program, effective 01 July 2025. He will take over from Professor Kenneth T. Co, PhD, who will assume the role of APD for the Master in Data Analytics (MDA) program.  

In a statement from the Office of the Dean, AIM expressed gratitude to both professors for their contributions and leadership. The institute emphasized that both Alis and Co have played vital roles in advancing their respective programs.  

Professor Alis brings deep expertise to his new role, with a background in data mining and wrangling, programming, big data and cloud computing, and data engineering. His current active research revolves around data science in healthcare and education.  
 
At AIM, he is widely recognized for his effective teaching style, which blends professional rigor with an approachable demeanor. He excels at making complex data science topics accessible and engaging by grounding lectures in real-world relevance. Students consistently highlight his ability to simplify challenging concepts and appreciate his supportive approach, marked by consistent feedback and readily available consultations. His methods are known to make complex topics in data science more accessible and engaging for students.  
 
The MSDS program continues to grow in relevance, adapting to changes in student demographics, curriculum, and leadership. With Professor Alis stepping into the APD role, the program is expected to build on its strong foundation and further its mission of producing data scientists equipped to address pressing societal challenges.  

AIM also reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access through initiatives like the Sustainable Leadership Learning for Climate and Disaster Risk Reduction (SLL-CDRR) scholarship program. By removing financial barriers, the program empowers future data science professionals to lead inclusive, evidence-based climate and disaster resilience efforts across the country.
