Turning Differences into Strengths: AIM Launches LT Wellness Sessions to Build Stronger Teams

Learning Teams (LTs) are an integral part of the academic journey at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), making the student experience unique and collaborative. Students are assigned to LTs upon admission, with each team designed to be diverse, bringing together members with different expertise and working styles to promote collaboration and teamwork.

Throughout their stay at AIM, students are encouraged to work closely with their LT mates. While working together provides valuable opportunities for collaboration and teamwork, it also brings together individuals with different values, priorities, expectations, and working styles. Creating opportunities for students to better understand these differences can help strengthen team dynamics and support a positive learning experience.

As part of its commitment to supporting student well-being and enriching the learning experience, the Guidance and Counselling Office (GCO) kicked off the Learning Team Wellness Sessions for the AQ1 intake graduate students—Master of Science in Data Science (MSDS) 2027 and Executive Master in Disaster Risk and Crisis Management (EMDRCM) 2027B—on 29 July 2026 and 03 August 2026, respectively. The sessions formally launch the program for all incoming cohorts, providing students with practical tools and opportunities to build stronger, more collaborative learning teams from the start of their academic journey.

Through interactive activities, each team explored their individual strengths and how to leverage them, personal stress signals and working styles, shared values and productive work rhythms, and a “team cue” for healthy conflict resolution. Participants also strengthened their conflict-resolution skills through situational analysis and team huddles.

Students left the sessions with a deeper understanding of their teammates and practical tools to collaborate more effectively throughout their academic journey. One participant shared, “I appreciated the opportunity to get to know my learning team and cohort better.” Others highlighted the engaging and enriching flow of the activities, as well as the value of seeing various perspectives from their team members. The opportunity to identify personal working styles and personality groups was also cited as a meaningful takeaway.
